MVP
Program for Human Performance
MAXIMUM VARIABLE
PERFORMANCE
Health Styles
offers sport specific training with our MVP program. Marc Schlichtenmyer
–ATC, CSCS will be conducting the program. He is a board
certified Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist
with experience training professional athletes in hockey, baseball,
basketball, and rugby, as well as amateur athletes in football,
wrestling, soccer, figure skating, etc. Each course is designed
according to the needs of the group. This is a high intensity
program specifically for competitive athletes.
CORE CONDITIONING
Total body strength starts with the core, which include your hips,
abs, and back. Having low core strength for an athlete is like
building a house without a foundation. The core musculature protects
the back and stabilizes the rest of the body during all motions.
If you reach to open the refrigerator, your core muscles must
fire a fraction of a second before the muscles of your arm, preparing
the body for the imbalance in weight and keeping the body upright.
AGILITY
With good core strength comes better balance. With better balance
comes increased agility. Agility can be defined as the efficiency
at which your brain communicates with your feet and legs, and
the precision that your feet and legs follow those commands. We
train agility by repetitive and progressive foot patterns while
running, jumping, etc. Meanwhile, always challenging the athlete
to complete increasingly difficult patterns.
PLYOMETRICS
Increased agility gives you the ability to accelerate from any
position. To maximize that ability, we train for explosiveness
of the lower body. We achieve that through a series of plyometrics
and the latest techniques in speed/acceleration training, thereby,
increasing your vertical leap and decreasing the time it takes
to get to a full sprint.
WHAT TO DO
Every sport uses one or all of the energy systems in different
percentages. Every sport has movements and skills that are unique
to that sport. You can’t train a football player like a
distance runner. Improper training of any of the aspects discussed
previously is as bad as not training at all. So, what is a competitive
athlete to do? You can study the biomechanics of your sport, analyze
the specific skills and break it down to learn the movements step
by step. You need to know what energy systems to train and in
what proportions. One should also know about over-training, periodization,
the SAID principle, and injury prevention. Or, you can come to
the board certified human performance professionals at HealthStyles
MVP program, where we are “Designing Your Perfect Performance”.
